Linda Erdmann is an artist, learner and educator.
From an early age she demonstrated interest
and ability in drawing and painting, in learning,
and helping others to learn.
As early as elementary school, Linda's teachers
recognized her artistic talents and engaged
her in creating classroom bulletin boards.
During her high school years, Linda continued
this practice of creativity by designing and
painting stage settings for the Goldmasquers
of Goldsboro, NC, and painting murals in local
offices and homes. Linda's formal art education
was at Wheaton College, Illinois, where she
graduated with a BA in fine art. As a college
student, her paintings were collected by residents
of Wheaton and nearby towns, which reinforced
her confidence in her artistic ability.
Throughout her subsequent thirty-eight year
career as an educator, Linda immersed herself
in teaching in the US and in Germany, teaching
art at the elementary, junior high and adult
levels. At different times in her career she
also served as a regular classroom teacher,
a special needs teacher, and an educational
consultant. As a distinguished Lucretia Crocker
Fellow for the MA Department of Education,
Linda presented Educator Training Programs
throughout Massachusetts and across the United
States. Even when teaching other subjects,
Linda always made art a vital part of her
curriculum.
During her teaching years, Linda was as much
a learner as teacher, moving on to the next
challenge once she had learned to meet the
current one. There was little time during
this period for her own artistic expression,
although she regularly created paintings to
hang in her own home.
Following her retirement from teaching and
a major surgery in 2005, Linda decided to
follow her lifelong dream of being an artist.
Just as she immersed herself in her teaching,
she began in the summer of 2005 to immerse
herself in art. Linda now paints full time
and travels often. She finds great inspiration
in her surroundings and loves to paint en
plein air in New England and in Germany and
Austria where she spends summers. Throughout
the year, she takes regular courses and workshops
in New England, California and Germany.
Linda Erdmann is a juried member of the Cape
Cod Art Association, the Creative Arts Center
of Chatham, MA, and the Yarmouth Art Guild.
Linda's work can be found in private collections
in the United States and in Europe.
